I have found refuge
In shadows of Christian cliche
Masking the wounds of my soul
Secure in playing it safe
For who wants to risk again?
It's easy to smile and pretend
Just focus on the good
And put on my Sunday best
Just do what you should
For who wants rejection again?
Only God sees the mess
No one knows the rest
I wanna walk in the light
Free in Your sight
The same before God and Man
I long to humbly come clean
Through eyes of love be seen
For who I really am
I am a child of the King
Hiding deep inside
Where love won't penetrate
Could it be the same sun that melts ice
Hardens clay?
Today if I hear His voice
Help me remember this choice
To obey is better than sacrifice
To obey is better than sacrifice
Only God sees the mess
No One knows the rest
I wanna walk in the light
Free in Your sight
The same before God and Man
I long to humbly come clean
Through eyes of love be seen
For who I really am
I am a child of the King
I am a child of the King
I am a child of the King

Those who know me also know that I can be honest to a fault. Still there is such a longing and passion in me to be completely free of the trappings of religious pretense; to not feel like I am bound by others opinions of me. Who doesn't want to know that they are fully loved for who they are? How much time is wasted maintaining false images of ourselves, or using the past as an excuse for current behavior. What a beautiful place of freedom when you have absolutely nothing left to lose - and nothing to hide. So many people, especially women, are chained to their fears and live a life avoiding people or situations that could be potentially painful. But God will continue to bring up the same situation and take you around that mountain again until the lessons are learned. It is not meant to make us more distant from people, but closer to Him and to others. We are all a mess in progress and God calls us to walk in the light - as He is in the light. I want to be known for who I really am...I think we all want that.
