Bruised Reed

Smouldering wicks and bruised reeds
Unprotected from selfish greed
Life goes on and no one sees
The pain inside, the silent cry

He will comfort the helpless and weak
Lost and lonely they beg for relief
He embraces the humble and meek
Who know their need
Who know their need

When deep calls to deep
Unlike human love that runs from grief
He sings silently through the night
Sheltering broken hearts
and childlike dreams

Smouldering wicks and bruised reeds
Not forgotten by the King
Life breathes forth an eternal seed
And He raises up a vessel of love

When deep calls to deep
Unlike human love that runs from grief
He sings silently through the night
Sheltering broken hearts
and childlike dreams

No fear in touching the unlovely
judged by sin and evil lies
No chain unbroken, no love unspoken
No stain beyond His sacrifice

Smouldering wicks and bruised reeds
Sow compassion in God's mercy......

  1. Often when I write songs, the meaning becomes clear later. Bruised Reed is a song that speaks to those who have been severely and carelessly used by others; namely those who have been the victim of child trafficking or any other abuse. Of course anyone who has been hurt in relationships can relate to the lyrics and find hope in a God who is near to those in need.
